Day 30: May 30 2009

Mommy drank a full cup of Prune juice, and Lana took little water in the biberon (that she did not like at all, and expressed it with a yucky expression on her face). Result: big huge bowel movement. Ouf, everybody is relieved, including Lana who was turning all red since the morning, pushing so hard. I think the only time she will experience again such hard pushing will be when she is in labor!

Lana started turning in her bed. We put her in a horizontal position, and find her later in a vertical position. She is starting to behave like her mom! Allah ynajjina

Day 29: May 29 2009

It is the third day for Lana without bowel movement. Mommy took an appointment with her doctor. The doctor said it is not a problem, as long as Lana feels comfortable and is not fussy or agitated. Mommy should eat prune juice.

And she did the one month exam (that was planned on June 2nd):

  • Weight 8 pounds 3.4 ounces = 3.73kg. It is still a little bit less than the average
  • High: 21 inches = 53.34 cm. It is right on the average.
  • Head circumference is small.

And she had her second Hepatitis B shot.

As usual, Lana peed on the doctor's table.

Lana next to her new pink teddy bear

Daddy noticed the teddy bear in the hospital gift shop but forgot to buy it before delivery.

Daddy bought the teddy bear 26 days after delivery.

It shows lana in this picture shorter than it.

A new picture will be taken every month or so to show how lana is going to get bigger and bigger.

Lana caught mzar2ata that day.

Daddy arrived early this day and start taking pictures for his little one. His new hobby ;)

Day 19: May 19 2009

The umbilical cord fell!

Daddy put Lana to sleep in the doughnut pillow and she enjoyed it. She looks so cute in it!

Lana focused for a while on the light, while daddy was holding her. And she follows people with her eyes.

Day 18: May 18 2009

The tetine is In! Lana slept for many hours with the tetine in her mouth. She first rejected it, but teta insisted, and Lana ended up enjoying it.

Lana has two milia pimples.

She is now focusing on people. She focuses on mommy and daddy and teta.

Day 17: May 17 2009

Lana got her first mail today! She received her social security number, in an envelope addressed to her!
Mommy noticed that Lana's ear is getting a little distorted because of the way she holds her when nursing. She tried putting a "bandeau" on it to adjust it, but Lana wouldn't bear it
Teta gives Lana every day a sun bath for 10 to 15 mins, before 10:00AM. This started to heal the jaundice. And now it is just for some Vitamin D intake, or to seduce the neighbor's son

Lana caught smiling in the dougnut pillow

Daddy not working today. He is just having fun taking pictures of his cute little one while mommy and teta sleeping.

This is the first day, Lana looking at the light, looking at her daddy with her big beautiful eyes and now sleeping like an angel.

Day 16: May 16 2009

Lana got her first nail cut. Teta was so scared, but mommy insisted on cutting her pouce, because she is hurting herself with it. The scratch mittens are not always there to protect her.

In the picture, Lana mzar2ata in daddy's lap, before going to work.

Day 15: May 15 2009

Lana is 2 weeks old! It seems like just yesterday when she arrived home from the hospital.

After the shower, teta does Lana's hair like her daddy: with ghorret Tintin J

She gave us her first big smile today, not like the usual small smiley faces she did before.

In the picture, Lana showing proudly ghorret Tintin.

Day 14: May 14 2009

While nursing, Lana grabbed mommy's finger and she wouldn't let go.

First thing that daddy does when he returns home from work is to ask about his little angie.

Day 13: May 13 2009

First quiet night. Lana slept good.

Day 12: May 12 2009

2nd visit to the Doctor. Lana's weight is now 6 pounds 4 ounces, equivalent to 2.85 kg. The doctor was satisfied by the weight increase. And the jaundice is gone.

Lana pooped twice at the doctor's office. It seems she likes to leave them some of her makings at each visit J

Teta suggested to regulate Lana's feeding and sleeping schedule, by giving her the bottle each time after she nurses. This insures battouna la Lana is full, so she would have long sleep. Operation under test.

Lana's favorite activity: peeing while changing her diapers! Mommy had to change her clothes twice!

Lana still doesn't like shower. She cries during all the shower that teta gives her.

Mommy decided to try the swaddler to help her sleep better. She seems to like it. She looks so very cute all bundled J

Day 11: May 11 2009

Lana is a night person! Sleeping during the day, and partying at night. Each time mommy puts her to bed, she gets all agitated. She wants to sleep only in mommy or daddy's laps. Ballachna ghenej 3a bakir J

Day 8: May 8 2009

Second screening test. Lana did not appreciate the needle .

Daddy created a web site for Lana. Lana-angelina.com. A very cute picture of her was posted.

Day 5: May 5 2009

Lana's first visit to the Doctor. She left her prints by peeing on the scale J

Weight is 5 pounds 11 ounces. She has a mild jaundice. Besides this, all is fine.

Day 3: May 3 2009

Lana went home, wearing her too big clothes.

Most of her clothes are too big, and she looks so tiny and cute in them.

She spent all day sleeping. Mommy, daddy and teta were worried. They tried unsuccessfully to wake her up to eat. Lana was sleeping like an angel. This went on through Monday also. But that was the last of Lana's long sleeping hours.

Mommy came up with a special song for Lana "Lana Lana Louneyeh, Fosseh fosseh fosseyeh, Poussi poussi pousseyeh". Daddy was offended by her little angie's nick name "Fosseh".

Here first time in car seat, and lana like it, and fall asleep and slept during her trip to the house.

Day 2: May 2 2009

Lana is enjoying her first day out in the world. She spent it mostly sleeping

Daddy took plenty of pictures and videos for Lana, and posted them on Facebook. All comments on Facebook are about how cute she is. And everybody loved the name Lana Angelina.

Mommy is taking breastfeeding courses, and failing at them J Breastfeeding sounds more difficult than labor!!

Hearing test was positive. The technician's comment was "She can hear well, but let's see if she will listen" J

Day 1: May 1 2009

Mommy's contractions under the oxitocyn did not seem enough. Discussion about C-section started. Daddy was getting anxious because he was afraid of an infection. And then suddenly, Lana decided she wants to come out and meet the world. The delivery was pretty easy and took around half an hour. Daddy stayed in the room with mommy, helping her. Teta was waiting in the hallway. And then they all heard a cry. The angel is here!!! Surprise: Lana has full black hair! She looks like daddy. She got all cleaned. Daddy went to her table and started talking to her. And then she was given to mommy to hold her.

Lana is born at 09:37PM. Weight is 5 pounds, 11.7 ounces. Height is 18.5 inches. Apgar score 9.

They were all moved to the final room. And everybody said goodbye to long nights of sleep J

During Labor

This is Reine suffering in Labor.
After the triage, Reine got moved to the delivery room.
She was not getting contractions, so Dr Dariki decided to induce labor with oxytocin.
After few minutes, Reine started to have cramps and she started screaming: "Any epidurals in here?" - That's just an exaggeration ;) - Anyway, the anesthesiologist comes and place an epidural, and Reine now not feeling anything. Relaxing and listening to internet radio music. The picture reflect her suffering during labor ;)

Delivery day May-01-2009

My wife Reine goes to work in US Airways as a regular day.
At home, hamatee, Mona, who came from Lebanon to help us care from our incoming baby, was wondering: "How come you have work on Labor day"?.
Labor day in Lebanon is celebrated on May 1 of each year but September 1st in the US.
Her mom told her actually she looks different!

Reine end up going to the Phoenix airport where she works in the IT department with multiple meetings awaiting her.

Nabil, me, went to work as a regular day in Maryvale hospital. For some reason, I decided to dress up. At around 10 Am, Reine calls me: "Guess what", "Lana is coming". I said: " No way", My wife Reine says: " Way, my water broke" Oops. The expected delivery date is May 10, my angelina decided to come 10 days earlier.

The funny part my wife is still not convincd this is happening actually, she decided to driver herself to the hospital! She did not want me to pick her up. She says: " I am fine", " You do not have to come, may be it is just a false alarm".
"False alarm!" says shocked Nabil (me), " You have 24 h maximum, and your baby has to come out or you will get an infection that can become very dangerous for you and the baby". "I will leave the hospital immediately. "

Anyway, I leave the hospital after quick call to arrange immediate coverage for my patients.

Meanwhile, my dear Reine, refuses that any of her coworkers drive her, drives herself to the hospital, Scottsdale Healthcare-Shea, give the keys to the Valet, and goes to the information and ask them to direct her to the maternity wards because her water broke. My wife tells me they were shocked to see her by herself, but she will have to tell you so herself.

A quick test in triage, confirms the fact.

By that time, I went home, got our suitcase already prepared by Reine 10 days ago, picked up Hamatee, Mona, and joined Reine in triage.
